Your First Visit

Our practice is focused on prevention and health. We believe that excellence in dentistry begins with a detailed evaluation of our patient. At your first visit to our practice you will have a Comprehensive Oral Evaluation by one of our dentists. This is the first step in determining your individual and personal dental needs.

This careful diagnosis and treatment planning session will include:

  • Review of your medical and dental history

  • Oral evaluation

  • Periodontal (gums) evaluation

  • Examination of current fillings and dental appliances

  • Oral cancer screening

  • Guided tour of your mouth with an intra-oral digital camera

  • Digital radiographs (x-rays), models, and photographs

All findings will be discussed with you at this visit and a baseline of your oral health will be established. We recognize that no two patients are alike and that your treatment plan should reflect your wants and needs. Different options will be discussed and through co-diagnosis, your personal treatment plan will be established. We encourage our patients to actively participate in the treatment planning process so that everyone may achieve their own desired level of dental health.

We can assure you that your Comprehensive Oral Evaluation will be much more detailed than a “quick check”. Many of our patients report that their new patient visit was the most thorough dental appointment they have ever experienced!

Finance / Insurance

Appointments

Appointments are made in advance and are confirmed by phone, email or text prior to your visit. We strive to be on time and appreciate your punctuality. There will be no charge for rescheduling your appointment provided a 24 hour notice is given.

Financial Information

Major credit cards such as Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover are accepted in our office. The fees for our dental services are the same for every patient, whether or not insurance is involved. For patients with dental insurance, we will calculate what your cost will be and will collect that at the time of the treatment. For patients without dental insurance, the fee for our treatment is due at the time of treatment.

Dental Insurance

We are a preferred provider for some plans of Delta Dental and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts, however we do accept most insurance plans as long as they have out-of-network coverage. All deductibles and co-payments are due at the time of service. As a courtesy to our patients we will submit claims to insurance companies. Patients are responsible for all fees that insurance does not cover.

Some insurance companies may base their allowances on a fee schedule that may not coincide with our office fees. We encourage our patients to educate themselves on the guidelines of their own insurance plan, as the relationship is between you and your insurance company. Dental insurance will pay a portion of your investment and we urge you to be aware of the provisions and limitations of your particular plan.

We will always make treatment recommendations based on what is best for your health and will work closely with you so that you may receive the maximum financial benefit from your insurance company.

Children’s Dentistry

Your Child’s First Dental Visit

Welcome to you and your child! We are happy that you have chosen Danvers Dental Care to be your child’s dental health care provider. We go to great lengths to make you and your child comfortable at their first dental visit to our office. Our dental team believes that positive and encouraging dental visits at a young age are an important to a future with healthy teeth.

big smileAt your child’s first visit he or she will see a hygienist for a dental prophylaxis (“cleaning”) and an examination from the dentist. Only necessary, cavity detecting radiographs will be taken and only at the appropriate age. Your child’s fluoride needs will be discussed and any questions you may have will be answered. We will always respect your child’s comfort level and will never force any treatment. If a first visit to our office only includes a ride in the chair and picking out a toothbrush, we still consider the appointment a success! Your child will be praised for their efforts and encouraged for the next visit. Our dental team is very patient and will provide a warm, caring environment for your child.

Here are a four tips that we have found to be very helpful for a great first dental visit:

1) Explain the upcoming visit in very simple terms

Prepare your child by telling them that the dentist and hygienist will count their teeth and make their teeth shiny.

2) Keep all discussions positive

big smileAvoid phrases such as “It won’t be too bad”, “It won’t hurt too much”, or “You can hold my hand if it hurts”. These phrases are intended to soothe, but will only create anxiety. Steer clear of any four-letter-words such as “hurt” or “pain”. Nothing we will do will hurt your child. We will always provide a safe and healthy environment. Young children have no reason to expect fear or pain at a dental visit. Often times, parents and adults can unknowingly project their own personal fears or anxieties onto children.

3) Allow our dental team to accompany your child through the dental experience

new toothbrushWe invite parents to join their child during the initial examination. However, we encourage parents to enjoy a good magazine in our comfortable reception area for future dental visits. The purpose of this is so the dental professional may establish a trusting rapport with your child and this can usually be done more effectively without a parent present. It also communicates to your child that you trust us to take care of them. For the privacy and safety of all patients, children not being treated should remain in our reception area with a supervising adult.

4) Schedule your child’s visit during the morning

We prefer to see children under the age of 8 in the morning when the child is fresh and full of energy. Small children are always happier and well rested in the morning hours. After sitting still in school all day it can be challenging for a child to be cooperative during a dental visit, especially a first dental visit.

We look forward to meeting your child and providing them with a wonderful dental experience.

Patient Resources

Dental Office Technology

We are proud to offer the safest and highest quality of care to our patients. Within the last several years there have been many advances in dental technology that allow us to treat our patients more comfortably and efficiently. Our goal is to give the best, individualized care to each of our patients that we possibly can, so we are constantly adding new dental equipment and technology such as:

toothDigital Radiography

Safe. Efficient. State-of-the-Art.

Digital X-ray technology provides an instant diagnostic image displayed on a computer screen allowing our patients to see their dental condition for themselves. Digital X-rays reduce a patient’s exposure to radiation by over 80% when compared to a traditional dental X-ray. This method of diagnosis is also better for the environment since chemicals are not used in digital imagining. It’s a wonderful tool for helping patients fully understand their treatment options.

toothDIAGNOdent – Cavity Detecting Laser

Accurate. Reliable. Conservative.

The DIAGNOdent laser is a simple, fast, and comfortable way to check a patient’s teeth for dental decay. Cavities can hide in the little pits and grooves and traditionally were only found mechanically with the dental explorer. But this method of cavity detection is not accurate enough, which is why our practice invested in the DIAGNOdent technology.

Proven to be over 90% accurate, the DIAGNOdent allows us to detect cavities in the earliest stage when treatment will be most conservative. The necessary fillings are typically smaller and preserve more of the tooth structure when decay is found early. This type of treatment is consistent with our philosophy of minimally invasive dentistry.

toothCEREC

Crowns in a Day!

CEREC is a computer-aided design system that gives you custom-made crowns and onlays faster and far more conveniently. With this technology, we are able to make your restoration here in our office while you wait! The process starts by taking digital images of your teeth and bite. From these, we create a digital model of your mouth and design your custom-fitting restoration. After verifying a precise fit and perfect color match, we permanently cement your new tooth. This results in the strongest, most esthetic ceramic restoration available today. With CEREC, there are no more messy impressions, no temporary crowns, no return visits…and no extra cost to you!

While this technology is amazing, it is not suitable for every tooth. In some cases, metal or porcelain fused to metal crowns are recommended over ceramic. If we choose this option, your case will be sent to the best dental laboratory in the area to ensure a perfect result.

toothIntraoral Camera

Seeing Is Believing!

Have you ever wondered what that cracked tooth looks like? Or how your dentist can see a cavity that doesn’t even hurt you? With a simple photograph patients are able to see a sharp, clear image on our computer screen. Intraoral cameras help connect patients to their dental health and allow us to explain your dental condition and diagnosis.
